Celestial Armilla Online Beading Class

Previously a live Zoom class, but now available as an online beading course! You can create a 3-Dimensional pendant with moving parts! Use Cubic Right Angle Weave (CRAW) and seed beads to create spinning rings to encompass a bezelled crystal. These will be ingeniously joined together to allow them to move independently for a stunning, wearable pendant. It also makes an interesting tree ornament.

Just like my Live Zoom Workshops, you’ll have the opportunity to ask me questions and connect with fellow students during your online beading class. There are up-close demos and everything you need to successfully complete the project. Each course includes a virtual classroom where you can ask me questions and chat with other beaders taking the class.

Most suitable for intermediate-advanced beaders. Previous experience of RAW is recommended and experience of CRAW is helpful (but not essential). There is a small amount of wirework used for the assembling but full instructions are included.

How does an online beading course work?

Upon booking you’ll be sent your PDF pattern which includes links to videos throughout it to help you work through the project. The number of videos varies depending on the project but all of the trickiest parts will be covered with a demo.

There is an introductory YouTube video for each project, which I recommend you watch (you’ll need to be online for this). This video is also your virtual classroom – with the chat on the video being the place to ask questions and share ideas.

What’s more, I’ll also send you emails throughout the month to see how you’re doing and to help you keep on track with your project.

Project Materials

Materials are not included. A full requirements list will be provided within the pattern upon booking. Materials packs and components are optionally available to purchase here. You will need:

• 2 x 14mm Swarovski flat back chessboard stones – or a 14mm flat backed cabochon or round/coin bead (please note rivolis or chatons are not suitable)

• Size 11 Japanese seed beads in two colours

• Size 15 Japanese seed beads

• 1 x 12-14mm crystal drop pendant or briolette (or larger if you prefer)

• A pinch of 3mm Miyuki spacers or size 8 Toho Demi rounds

• 0.6mm wire

• 8mm jump ring, headpins and earwires

• Ribbon to hang

• Small piece of toning Ultrasuede (approx. 3cm x 3cm)

• You will need round nose pliers, chain nose pliers and cutters.

Note on beads: Toho beads give a really nice finish to this piece; you will end up with a slightly chunkier more square finish. Miyuki will give a more rounded finish but work just as well!

Materials Packs are available but are NOT mandatory. These materials packs for the project can be purchased here. Limited quantities of the discontinued Chessboard Crystals are also available.

Tanzee Designs (based in UK) stocks all of the materials needed for this project. If you can’t find what you are looking for then do give them a ring and they will be able to help you match colours and find suitable swaps. For US folk, Jill Wiseman Designs stocks all the necessary beads and materials in a lovely array of colours (except the Chessboard but 14mm cabochons are available).
