As you may have read in my previous post, my biggest piece of work to date ‘Emerald City’ was heavily inspired by the novel Wicked by Gregory Maguire, the basis for the hit musical of the same name.
I simply had to share it with the intrepid author and was delighted at his response:
“Wow, that’s phantasmagoric!”
High praise indeed and I may have now found a new favourite word! If like me it’s a new one for you, here’s a handy definition from dictionary.com:
phantasmagoric
adjective
1. having a fantastic or deceptive appearance, as something in a dream or created by the imagination.
2. having the appearance of an optical illusion, especially one produced by a magic lantern.
3. changing or shifting, as a scene made up of many elements.
I think that’s a pretty perfect description and can certainly apply to so many pieces of beadwork!
If you enjoyed the whimsical steampunk elements in ‘Emerald City’ you can make your own in my new workshop ‘Dr Dillamond’s Curio’, taking place at Stitchncraft Beads in 2016.
