Let’s use brick stitch and Delica beads to weave tiny little witch’s hats with a 3-Dimensional brim! These beaded charms make cute earrings for the perfect quick make to accessorise this Halloween.
Halloween is possibly my favourite celebration of the year. While I don’t go all in for scares and gore, I love the subtler spooky side of the festivities! I lean into cute witches and ghosties, pumpkin carving and natural gourd decorations – and a chance to bring together friends and family for great seasonal food. And I’m always up for an opportunity to get dressed up in a costume or don a witch’s hat!
Halloween colours & their significance
Seasonal colours of rich purple, orange and black are definitely my bag, and while I wouldn’t necessarily proclaim myself a Pagan I definitely resonate with much of the feels of this feast.
Did you know that Halloween – or Samhaim – is the Pagan New Year, and is a time for honouring ancestors, acknowledging the change of the season and looking ahead to the darker part of the year. I’ve been fortunate to attend various Samhaim celebrations with friends in the past and be able to understand more about this ancient tradition.
Colours are important for this feast, with black symbolising death and endings, orange is linked to the harvest and the warm glow of a fire, and purple represents wisdom, insight and inspiration.
That’s a good part of the reason why these colours have become so intrinsic with the more commercialised modern Halloween festivities!
Beaded halloween earrings for you!
However you choose to celebrate, I hope you love these cute little witch’s hat earrings!
In this free beading pattern I’ll show you two extra variations on the witch hats; a larger, pointier hat and a 2D version perfect for beginner beaders. I’ll show you how to work with brick stitch, and how to increase and use ladder stitch.
I love working in brick stitch as it is the best stitch for easily creating shaping, and it naturally lends itself to triangles! This project is created using size 11 Delica beads, but you could easily use size 10 Delicas for a larger hat – or even size 8 Double Delicas!
These tiny hats make perfect earrings but they have so many other uses! Why not stitch them in a whole bunch of Halloween colours and add them to a charm bracelet? Or incorporate them into a larger design, like in my Wicked Witch’s Locket.
