I’m dedicating February to the word: “Positivity” and my personal pledge is to use the month for good. Do you want to join me?
To kick-start this positivity, and celebrate the fact that it’s LGBT+ History month, I wanted to share with you some facts about LGBT+ History and remind you that I am a partner with UK-based charity LGBT Foundation.
You and your beads can help make a difference every time you purchase one of my LGBT-themed patterns! This money goes to LGBT Foundation to aid their work in delivering advice, support and information services to LGBTQ+ communities.
Some facts for you
🏳️🌈 LGBT+ History month is celebrated every February across the UK and was founded in 2004 by Schools OUT UK.
🏳️🌈 The month-long celebration is important because it helps to recognise the diversity and history of the LGBT+ community, and it provides an opportunity for people to come together and support one another.
🏳️🌈 LGBT+ History Month is for everyone; whether you work in education, a museum, a library or an art gallery, a business, a service, or are a member of a network/social group or an individual.
🏳️🌈 The Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act 2013, was passed on 17 July 2013. The first UK same-sex marriage took place almost 10 years ago in March 2014.
🏳️🌈 Until 2003, just 21 years ago, local authorities and schools were banned from ‘promoting homosexuality’ under the Section 28 clause.

Some things you might enjoy…
Here are some little cultural finds, which celebrate LBGT+ communities, that I liked and thought you might too….
Meet Me in Mumbai
I just finished this book last week. I picked it out from the Teen/Young Adult section of my local library (it doesn’t matter what age it’s meant for if you dig it!) and really enjoyed this story which celebrates cultures and families (of all kinds).
Desire, love, identity: LGBTQ histories trail
While I haven’t been to this trail myself, the British Museum is renowned for its amazing exhibitions and I thought this looked interesting!
Rainbow bracelets by Cotton Twist
I was introduced to this lovely sustainable brand at Christmas and then bought the party bag fillers for the tiny beader’s birthday. These rainbow kits would make a great conversation starter about equality with a youngster while you’re beading them together.
Steps: The Musical
You may, or may not know (you do now!), that my all time favourite pop band is Steps! If you love wonderful, sparkly inclusive pop, you might be pleased to know that there are plans for a Steps: The Musical. Every Steps concert is a place to celebrate and embrace everything that makes each of us unique.
